Entracte is a table lamp conceived as a sensory experience of time. A luminous sphere slowly descends along a metal rod, offering a tangible representation of the passage of time, inspired by the gradual melting of a candle.
Behind this apparent simplicity lies a real technical challenge: to design a mechanism capable of ensuring smooth, silent and precise movement over a configurable duration of 15 minutes to 3 hours, whilst integrating discreetly into the object and preserving the designer’s vision.
iol was involved in the entire technical development of the lamp.
Our team designed the mechanism enabling the controlled movement of the illuminated sphere, striking a balance between precision, reliability, compactness and ease of assembly.
At the same time, we coordinated the development of the electronics, carried out by a specialist partner, to ensure seamless integration between the mechanical and electronic components and the user experience.
