From concept to ball track, design is the key

In 2022, Ladbrokes commissioned iol to create a new online betting format: a physical marble race, streamed continuously, on which users could place real-time bets.

iol designed the track from A to Z — an 18-meter layout featuring obstacles, 3D modeling, prototyping, testing, and full-scale production. The entire system was engineered to operate autonomously, delivering high reliability and sustained entertainment value.

To enable 24/7 racing, iol recommended Cilyx for the robotics component. The custom-developed system automatically returns the marbles to the starting line, while a network of sensors and cameras tracks the race progression in real time.

Dreamwall added the final layer with animated virtual environments, projected directly onto the track using video mapping technology — transforming each race into a fully immersive spectacle.

Marble Races is the result of close collaboration between iol, Ladbrokes, and its partners, demonstrating iol’s ability to turn a bold concept into a fully operational, immersive experience — seamlessly blending design, engineering, and prototyping.
